IFTA is India’s 1st people’s Choice Awards, with an aim to acknowledge and acclaim the versatile talent in the Indian Film, Television, OTT and Music industries.
Team IFTA believes that there is no better judge than the audience. So IFTA gave the voting rights to the ultimate consumers of the content – the viewers. There is no jury or panel involved in making the decision for the winner.
IFTA has a dedicated market research team that works diligently to find the potential list of nominees who then compete to win the particular category. Spread across various categories, the IFTA market research team makes nomination lists based on primary & secondary market research and analysis. These lists are then made public for the audience to vote. The Nominee getting the highest number of votes wins that particular award category.
The Importance of a Good Screenplay
Just like a blueprint is required for the foundation of a building, similarly, a film that has to be mounted on some budget needs a blueprint. The screenplay is the very basis or the first step in pre-production. A film, web show, or any cinematic content cannot be made without a screenplay.
A screenplay comprises the story in three acts: the beginning, middle, and end. The entire phase of the production or filming is based on these 120 pages of a film screenplay. 120 pages is a standard that the industry follows. It is the text on these pages that makes it worthy to be translated into a film. Sholay is a classic example of a perfect script, where writer Salim-Javed skilfully transports us to the world set in Ramgarh.
The Screenwriter who penned the Best Screenplay is…..
With 1556 votes, Sandeep Shrivastava wins the award for the Most Popular Bollywood Screenwriter 2021-22 for Shershaah. The job to write a screenplay on the life of a reallife personality is difficult, as you tend to take some writing liberties. It is hard to do justice to a story based on true events as sometimes you might not be in sync with the sensibilities of the viewers. But, Shershaah is amongst the best examples of how to do a biography right. Sandeep Shrivastava successfully transports us into the magnanimous life of Captain Vikram Batra.
With 685 votes Vivek Agnihotri secures the second spot for The Kashmir Files. Vivek had both written and directed this film. The film revolves around the disturbing mass exodus of Kashmiri Pandits from their native homeland. The film turned out to be one of the highest grossers of the year 2022. It must have been very hard to write scenes involving violence, bloodshed, and entangled human stories.
The third spot is secured by Laxman Utekar for Mimi with 358 votes. The tale of a surrogate mother trying to figure out her place in the world that seems to go upside down as she reveals her pregnancy, was highly appreciated by the audiences. The writing by Laxman was solid, on point and very fresh. Very few films have touched on the concept of surrogacy in the past.
Some Honourable Mentions
At number four is Kabir Khan for writing the sports drama, 83. Based on the life of cricketer Kapil Dev, this film was another biographical film that had all the right ingredients to make it watchable.
The next spot is attained by Himanshu Sharma for writing Atrangi Re. Following him are Ritesh Shah for Sardar Udham, Aseem Arora for Bell Bottom, Seema Pahwa for Ramprasad Ki Tehrvi and Sujoy Ghosh for Bob Biswas.
